Data in the Research Enterprise:
What are they? Who owns them?
How should they be managed?

The Graduate Scholars Forum is presented by the Office of Compliance Assistance, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and the School of Graduate Studies.

This workshop is FULL. Please check back for future workshop offerings.

The Forum is an interactive learning experience associated with the Graduate Scholars Certification Program, providing an in-depth look at

  • record keeping
  • data ownership
  • data management

It is an integral part of Responsible Conduct of Research training that begins with the Graduate Scholars Orientation held each fall, and it will be of interest to every graduate student and postdoctoral fellow that plans to publish research or other scholarly work.

Dr. Jackson-Smith will share his experience concerning data acquisition, ownership, use, and protection of confidentiality in collaborative research and scholarship. He will be joined by Russ Price, USU's Federal Compliance Manager and an expert in intellectual property development. A case will be analyzed focusing on ethical and legal issues surrounding the collection and management of data from human subjects, protection of confidentiality, and issues surrounding ownership and access to data.
